If someone decided they really wanted to make the perfect Chad food, it would probably be this.

It’s fried bread, crunchy on the outside and doughy on the inside (sound like anyone you know?), brushed with garlic and topped with a few fistfuls of grated cheese. There are varieties you can get, including one with ketchup or dessert options, but vitamin cheese is all it needs IMHO. I did make a slight improvement by adding some crushed paprika in oil I found at the store. This thing was so good I had it for lunch and dinner.
Bratislava is an interesting place. It has the old town with everything you’d expect: churches, cobblestones, a castle, beautiful buildings, tourists, Burger King and McDonald’s, a Rolex store, and, of course, Swarovski. Despite this, I walked around for a few hours. I’m being a little cynical here, it is quite nice. I’ve just seen so many old towns full of exactly the same things and brands. It’s a little silly.

It also has some pretty cool apartment blocks outside of downtown. Throughout my ride I’ve seen lots of blockish apartment buildings with little splashes of color that I really like. My favorite have been here.

And finally, there is a LOT of construction. Mostly modern looking condos and shopping malls. If you are in Toronto, it would be like liberty village (if it were built up now) or the revitalization of regent park. Classy looking mid rise buildings with retail space on the ground floors. This picture only really hints at what I am getting at.

All to say, it seems to have all the eras covered and must be going through some significant growth right now.
After old town, I headed to an outdoor market a few kms away. It was very different from old town. No tourists at all and a little gritty. There was a lot of produce and other food, some clothing and knick-knack stalls and some food vendors (it’s where I found langośe). Kind of a swap meet merged with a farmers market. I liked it.

Then back to the lake for a swim. And that was my day. Tomorrow I start the final 2 day ride to Budapest. My goal is to make it more than half way and to enter Hungary. I’m down to my last €10 and don’t want to take out more. Hungary uses its own currency.
So fun. Final stretch.
Definitely your kind of food especially with paprika oil and peppers added! You’ll be happy to know I picked up XXX hot roasted Hatch green chilies for you. Bratislava looks to o be a very diverse city, a little of all kinds of architecture. You’re on the home stretch.
Hatch chilies is exciting. Thanks!
Frybread! Someone’s usually serving it at the Powwow in Duff Grove in September, if you miss it after you get back. You *are* coming back, right?
Your comment about churches, a castle, Burger King… reminded me of a song from “Starmania” about getting confused as to which city one is in because they start to all look alike under the neon. I’m glad you were able to get some local flavour too.
Are you camping tonight or in a pensione? That view of the bluish clock spire looks as if you were in somebody’s attic.
I am coming back and I’m excited about it :). Camping. That pic was taken from a walk (bike push) up 3 flights of stairs to a castle
Yikes! I hope that was an unloaded bike, at least!
Langose with cheese would be my favorite too.
Hard to believe you only have 2 days left. I’ve enjoyed going along for the journey.
Especially liked these pictures.
Hope you have some time in Budapest.
3 days in Budapest
Enjoy your last leg of the journey!
That’s the plan!
