It is wet wet wet with little relief in the current forecast. It seems I am storm chasing the next week or so. Hopefully today is the worst of it. 🌧️
As a result, the 110km ride I did is a bit of a blur. Much easier to follow than yesterday but also a head down and grind it out kind of affair. When I tried to stop and note or document things they came out like this.
Lots of river riding which was great. Frankly I may as well have been swimming in it.
There were some highlights:
- Crossing a bridge into cologne with a huge Cathedral and modern museum in view
- Happening into the middle of a farmers market/food truck square in Bonn during a brief pause in the rain. Would you believe there was a Los Angeles *fusion* food truck with tacos and burritos? I took a pass and had curry wurst instead. OMG it was good.
- The last 30 minutes of riding on the bank. The view of the river, tree covered hills and three castles on the other side of the water was pretty much how I imagined this ride would be.
- And then there was this. My pronunciation of whatever the hell it was was close enough that the woman behind the counter understood. Desire is the mother of butchered German.
Camp tonight is indeed a field with no shelter of any kind save what you bring. The showers were hot though. And I am literally feet from the bike path, like 6.
Think dry thoughts for me!
Ooo, that ice cream thingy looks great. Have a dry night Chad! CW
Sounds like it is time to find a laundry mat! Stay dry. Enjoying your trip from afar! I’ll take one of those ice cream cones.
Sorry things are so soggy! But everything else makes up for all the wetness I’m sure. Also, get a hotel room and treat yourself to a dry bed! It’s not cheating!
I know! Turned out just fine. CRAZY rain between 12 and 3 or so, but my tent didn’t leak!
Admire your positive attitude in all that rain. What is the temp?
The ice cream must have made up for some of the rainy ride. Whatever it cost it looks like a better deal than the US $15 pint of Ben and Jerry’s in Costa Rica. I know, I know, you needed and earned them both!
I liked the blurry picture. Very “arty.”
May you have some sunshine and much more ice cream.
20 Celsius plus or minus a few. Perfect when not soaking wet 🙂
Bravo, rainy rider! Important question: is that ice cream spoon edible, or just biodegradable?
Wooden. I was hungry but I didn’t eat it 😉
Chad, did you bring your “Bicycle Bingo” card with you in your gear? I’m guessing that either that artery clogging ice cream melt or that food truck burrito was the centre square?
The latter was even more scenic than the castles!
GoManGo!
Don’t leave home without that card!
