I will admit that I have tim hortons for breakfast most days. I have a soft spot (my middle) for breakfast sandwiches, and now that timmies has beyond sausage it is doubly hard to refuse.
In the line up this morning a woman pushing 80 said to me ‘I used to do that’. She meant travel by bike. She went on to say she recently had to trade her two wheels in for three because her balance isn’t what it used to be. Sweet. Until I had to wait 5 minutes as she counted the exact change for her breakfast in front of me.
When I arrived at the trail this morning there was a sign with a picture of an ATV on it. I love clarity. Country roads it was going to be.
Not much to report about the ride except how little there was to report on. For 90km I did not pass any businesses nor establishments of any kind. Good thing I overbought groceries the day before.
One curiosity about New Brunswick, there are a lot of cemeteries. Small and oddly placed all over. Weird.
It took 8 hours, those 90 km. It was pretty hilly. I likely spent about 2 hours in a granny gear going 5 to 8 kph over the course of the day and never for more than 15 minutes at a time. I am pretty sure I have some more hills between here and the bridge to PEI.
Weather was perfect. Cloudy and coolish. Mactaquac is nice (pic 2). I am happy to have a campsite with trees and I went for a swim in the river which was great.
Rain starts in the middle of the night and looks to be light but consistent all day tomorrow. I think a hotel may be in the cards. Though I am not sure where.
It should be two 120 km rides to get to Parlee provincial park as planned, but there is a huge no persons land right in the middle. I may yet again adjust the next few days to account for weather and the fact that I can’t seem to do much more than 100 km in a day for some reason.
