Rewinding slightly to yesterday. On the bus ride it started pouring. I mean like crazy. Long story short me and my bike took a cab to the campground from the bus terminal.
All in all I got very lucky with the weather. There was supposed to be four days of straight rain. Three hours last night was not so bad by comparison.
Despite all the motorized transport I logged 77 km yesterday.
This morning started with a beautiful ride along the Northumberland straight on a small highway. This is Acadian territory the road signs told me. I stopped and had lunch at the beach and walked into the water (pic 1 and 2) as some seagulls helped themselves to my leftovers.
You can’t ride a bike over the 13 km long confederation bridge (fine by me!) so I took a shuttle. Once in PEI the confederation trail was right there. I took the long way to Linkletter provincial park so I could use it. It is exactly as advertised and I’m very happy about that (pic 3).
So far PEI is a different planet than New Brunswick. Postcard pastoral along the trail, and the one town I rode through, Summerside, was exactly what you’d expect a small maritime community to look like. I stopped at the first place that advertised fish and chips and got some take out. According to their window, the have the best in town and who am I to argue?
104 km today. Not sure what the next two days will look like, depends on availability of camp sites at some nearby parks. But I hope to at least pass through Cabot beach and cavendish/PEI national park. Look those places up. Pretty beautiful.
