In a tent about to fall to sleep. I don’t think either of us hurt much at all. Today’s highlights…
58 miles / 99 km
First hour was great. Mostly downhill and we spent some time on a beautiful trail. Then I noticed my tire was low. We stopped to pump it and planned on finding a bike store 5 miles away. 100 yards away was a pop up bike repair stand for the Portland century ride so they replaced my tube in 10 minutes for $7. Tough to beat.
In Oregon city we took a bike elevator which saved us about 200 feet of elevation. Not cheating as the elevator is for bikes. Right?
Then we ride through some rural areas. Tons and tons of hops fields which I had never seen. Some beautiful and fragrant flower farms too.
After a few hours of that we found the hills. We ended up on a loose gravel road for under 5 miles with some nasty hills. In some spots the tires would slip. These 5 miles took over an hour. Yikes. Jeremy was light years ahead of me.
After that it got very forestry with big trees and here we are at Silver Falls. We plan to see the main falls on the way out.
Tomorrow is our hardest day. We plan to be up and 6 and will probably be on the road for over 10 hours. Hopefully not much more but based on my hill speed who knows.
