I am now camped at a silly RV place near Eureka. I biked 130 km today over 9.5 hours. The first half was tough as I mentioned, the second half much easier. Must have been the omelette, hash browns and chocolate milk second breakfast. Breakfast of champions I tell you.
Around 20 Celsius / 66 Fahrenheit is absolutely perfect weather for cycling by the way. That makes a huge difference.
I rode on Trinidad scenic road for a few miles and it was incredible. Just off the 101 which I needed a break from. It is a single lane rough road that hangs maybe 150 ft over the ocean. It is exactly the kind of riding I hoped for. Great views, no cars, and not white knuckle.
Then I got to ride on the Hammond trail for quite a while which was also great. Not as scenic, but much of it was near the water and you just can’t complain about trails. The picture of me on a bridge is part of this trail.
My neighbors tonight are a man named jack who must be in his late 60s or early 70s who has been doing bike tours as long as I have been alive. And a young guy from Vermont touring the country on a motorcycle.
Tomorrow I hope to land somewhere between Myers Flat and Leggett. Leggett sits atop the last big climb of my ride and I look forward to it being behind me. So the closer I get to it tomorrow the better.
