As you all know I am now in San Francisco. I thought I’d send one more email for completeness.
The rest of yesterday was pretty uneventful. After my last email most of the ride was inland and there was some sun.
The hiker biker site at Samuel Taylor state park was bustling. 2 Germans, 2 brazillians, a set of twins from San Francisco, a grumpy old guy and a young French Canadian hippy woman. Minus the grumpy dude everyone was nice. One of the Germans had just finished riding the transamerica trail – over 5000 miles. The campground was excellent. A lot like the Humber river trail in Toronto.

I didn’t pass any town on the way in so I had to run to one for dinner. And there was takeout Indian food. And it was good. I was the envy of my neighbors.
The ride into San Francisco today was pretty short at 60 or so kms. Mostly downhill. It was through some fancy suburbs of this fancy town. In the photos you will see one from salsalito of the only bike exclusive roundabout I have ever seen.

Riding over the bridge was pretty cool except it was packed with tourists on rented bikes who clearly don’t ride much. Avoiding collisions was a good distraction for me though. I have to get over this height thing.
Once on the other side I sat down on a sidewalk and has a little cry. It was a happy cry.

I was worried my hotel would be a dump because it is ‘cheap’ by the standards of this town. It is in a rough part of town (the tenderloin) to be sure but it’s awesome. My room is quite small but big enough to take my bike apart and very close to the mission and an airport train stop.
I biked about town a bit and have had 2 burritos so far. And I have one more full day. My only plan for tomorrow so far is more burritos and to pack.

I am very excited to go home to see Karen and oz and tango. And to figure out when and where my next bike trip will be 😉
