And so it begins.
We were up earlier than I care to be (6:30), packed up, got ourselves and my still unboxed bike in a cab and to the train station for 7:30. By 8 we were in Milngavie. By 8:15 on the trail.

For the first day we had unbelievable weather, 18 c and sunny. This is as it has been in Scotland for us so far. Who would have thought? May be the last sun we see for a while, though, and temperatures are trending toward more seasonally average.
The trail was pretty flat as we worked our way out of the burbs and through some conservation areas and farm land. Glimpses of the highlands here and there. Probably not the most scenic day of the walk, but it was pretty nice all the same.

Nice lunch at Turnip the Beet, and then made it to town by 1:30. Our BNB is a 250+ year old church with a super modern bathroom. Guests from England, Wales and the Netherlands. Tea and scones were at 4.
Dinner at the Clachan, first licensed to serve in 1734. Steak pie for me and non steak pie for Karen. I win!
Definitely feeling it in the legs and feet by the time we got to the end today, but not too bad. Tomorrow we have at least one big hill which will change the calculus.
Loved your day 1 entry Karen (not so much the food).
I’m impressed by how ancient the history of Scotland is.
Glad day 1 was an easy one.
Looks very nice. Feet Hutu g already may be an issue in a few days😛. Weather looks great. Hope it will continue. Sleep well.
I meant to say “your feet hurting already….”
Sunny days are bonus eh! Tomorrows walk along Loch Lomond looks awesome (and with any luck you’ll get to help birth a lamb). I imagine it’s too early in the season to go swimming in the Loch…but you’re not there that often…
ps Be a little leery of some of them old rocks – specially the large stones in a circle (a la Craigh na Dun)
now go work them legs
“Turnip the Beet” is my new favorite vegetarian restaurant name.
They made a pretty good pork sausage sandwich for a veggie place 😉
Hi Chad, and nice to meet you digitally, Karen!
I had no idea this trip was in the works, Chad, until one of your ALAB fans/clients filled me in. I’m so envious and impressed!!!
Wind at your back!!! )(or maybe no wind is better for walking 🫤).
What is vegetarian haggis all about, Karen?
What is your clan?
I’m excited to follow your adventure. Thanks for including me!
You must have visited BP in #1603. If you see her again say hi for me!
No wind for walking please. We got a stiff breeze for a few minutes today and it was very cold.
I’ll let Karen fill you in on veggies haggis. Neither version appeals to me :/
Roger that, Chad!
May the wind only pass through your backside 🙂
