I am not a morning person. So getting up at 4:30 to catch a flight is not my idea of a good time. But I did it today and am now in a tent on a beach just south of San Francisco. The sun is yet to set but I’ve been up since 1:30 AM in this time zone 💤
I’m going to skip the whining about the airport and flight. I made it, my bike made it, all is well. However, I have to question why, at a time when Toronto’s airport is making international headlines for how much it sucks, Air Canada has decided to make everyone measure their carry on bags before they get in the line that precedes the security line. Unbelievable. We are doomed as a species.
Francis beach campground is under 40 km from the airport. But that’s no way to start a 10 day ride! So I opted to ride into San Fran proper before heading back south to make it a ~70 km ride. My mission: the Mission. And specifically super burritos. Since I couldn’t decide on a single place to try, I tried two.
The ride out of SF was a pretty steep climb, a few of them in fact. Through the burbs. Not much to report about that. When the city gave way to the coast the riding mostly got better. But there were some hairy spots where the shoulder disappeared and cars where whizzing by the slow cyclist with little care.
There were some short but very nice trails and some stunning views as I neared Half Moon Bay. Let’s hope for more riding like that.
And the beach at this campground is gorgeous. The water is pretty frigid though.
And guess what I found a mere 2 km away. The biking is just an excuse to eat as many burritos and as much ice cream as I want. Let’s not pretend otherwise.
Night night
You my friend are quite the photographer.. and a bit of a magician – making a burrito appreciation tour look like a bike trip!
🪄🌯
Those beaches, sigh. Sounds like an awesome first day, fueled by your favourite foods. Hope today isn’t as dicey on the roads
Well, I did the dicey parts again. More in that in the next installment.
Great pics! What a beautiful way to spend time with yourself and explore new places. Biking is therapy and I’m so happy you found something that helps you as well as challenges you. Glad we get to tag along Chad. Very inspiring ❤️
