That was the best sleep I’ve had on this trip. I have mixed results sleeping in tents, but I think the warmth and the sound of the waves did me in.
Google maps was doing backflips to keep me off parts on the 101. I mean, it’s not amazing riding on the side of a freeway, but it’s legal and was maybe 20 km instead of 120.
Santa Barbara and it’s surrounding villages were nice. And I got a pro tip from my cousin Chelsea about a place to eat hidden near some batting cages. I went slightly off brand for tacos, and I’m awfully glad I did.
After that, the riding got excellent. Seaside boardwalks, dedicated bike lanes and paths for tens of kilometers. The fog kept things cool in a good way.
I had to veer away from that loveliness into Oxnard for a store. Not much to say about this place. But after that great riding again with the Santa Monica mountains on my immediate left and the ocean on my immediate right.
Now I’m camped out in the park. The beach is nice and the campsite is ok. My neighbor started riding from Seattle in June and is headed to San Diego. He’s riding an ebike and hauling a trailer for gear and spare batteries. I figure if I started in June I’d be halfway through Mexico at this point. But I didn’t want to be an asshole so kept that to myself.
Today was 130 km and easier than I expected. Tomorrow will be 140 and the longest of the trip. I’m basically going to ride to and through LA in one go.
What a cool day. And hoping for another good one they LA.
Looks beautiful. And those tacos look delish!

Good looks great. Looks like you’re past LAX, making good time today. Keep it up.
Food looks great, not “good looks great. “
